About Us

Home For Dancers was founded by a dancer/choreographer who, just like you, left her home and her life to come to LA and take dance classes. At that time there was nothing like Home For Dancers. That’s why, after getting a work visa and 10 years of a successful dance career in LA (working for artists such as Michael Jackson, Usher, Black Eyed Peas , Gwen Stefani, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, etc.), this same Dancer decided to give back to the dance community by building a « Home For Dancers » that has everything she wishes she had when she 1st came to LA:

• a home with an affordable bed.
• a home walking distance to Debbie Reynolds dance studio or a bicycle ride away from Millennium, mL studios and other dance studios, so your valuable money can be spent on dance classes rather than expensive housing, taxis and rental cars.

• a completely furnished and clean home.
• a home with complementary wifi internet access.
• a home that has utility included in the rent.
• a home with a washer and dryer.
• a home manager that can get you in touch with dance agents, auditions, immigration lawyers and give great dance and career advise.
• a home you could rent per week or per month.
• a home where you could choose your own type of bed or your own room.
• a home where all you need to bring is your suit case and a towel, because everything else is already there and complementary.
• a home you can share with others that are sharing the same dream.
• a home for Dancers… … like me, like YOU

Q: Are common spaces shared?
A: Since home for dancers is set up like a vacation home, you do share the common spaces such as kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, bathrooms, carport, dance studio, laundry room, and backyard. Should you choose the single or double bed option you will also share your bedroom with other dancers. Please see pictures to see how rooms are set up.

Q: If I rent a bed in a shared bedroom, with how many others will I be sharing the room with?
A: It depends on the type of bed you are renting and in which season you are coming. But most of our bedrooms are set up with 4 beds.

Q: Can I have my own bedroom and bathroom?
A: Yes! We have private studios available to rent, which include your own private bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenet. We also have separate private bedrooms that share a bathroom with others. Please check for availability of each.

Q: Is HomeForDancers in a safe area?
A: HomeForDancers locations are purposely located in North Hollywood, which is where you can find the most popular dance shcools and studios in LA. Los Angeles is fine during the day but we would recommend to be careful at night, even in the nicest neighborhoods such as Beverly hills! We’ve never had any safety issues but we want everyone to always be careful in general.

Q: Does it have Internet?
A: Home for dancers does have the best wifi Internet, completely FREE!

Q: How far is it from the dance schools?
A: Home for dancers is walking distance to Debbie Reynolds Studios, and a quick bicycle ride away from mL studios, Millennium dance complex, Noho PAC, The Basement, and the North Hollywood metro station which takes you to IDA and The Edge! You can see exactly where we are located on our map.

Q: How can I get around LA?
A: You can reserve a Home for Dancers Bicycle and/or we can help you rent a car to fully experience all that Los Angeles has to offer.

Q: Can I rent the whole place?
A: Yes! You can rent an entire house, but to do so we recommend booking far in advance, as beds are usually reserved for a few months out.

Q: Do I need to bring my sheets?
A: No, we provide all bedding including pillows, sheets, and comforters. All you need to bring is your personal shower towel.

Q: I don’t speak good English, is there someone at Home For Dancers that can help me with my stay?
A: Yes! The manager of Home For Dancers speaks English, Spanish, French, Greek, understands tagalog, Italian and Portuguese! And the executive Assistant speaks fluent Spanish!

Q: How far in advance do I need to book?
A: The earlier the better, but we recommend Reserving 3 to 6 months in advance to make sure we can accommodate you as best as possible. However, there could be last minute availability (see booking page for availability).

Q: How do I get to Home For Dancers from the airport?
A: there are 6 different ways to go about the airport:
1: you can take a taxi (approx. $80 to $100)
2: you can get your own private shuttle that I can order for you (or you can do it to) and it is a flat rate of $85 www.primetimeshuttle.com
3: you can get a shared shuttle, which is about $20 and does multiple stops www.shuttletoLAX.com
4: you can take the flyaway van nuys bus (about $7), which will take you to the van nuys airport, and from there you can take a taxi (or an Uber X) to Home For dancers which is near by.
5: Also there is another FlyAway bus that takes you to union station in downtown from were you can take the red line underground metro which will take you to North Hollywood train station which is even closer to HomeForDancers.
6: And there are lots of UBER and Uber X in the area if you get the UBER app.

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement to stay at Home For Dancers?
A: We do have a minimum requirement of 18 years old due to rental agreements and liability reasons, however a minor can stay with a legal parent’s consent and be accompanied by another dancer over the age of 18.

Q: Where can I eat around the house?
A: There is a convenience store open 24hrs that is located only a couple of blocks away, grocery stores, as well as full service restaurants and fast food restaurants near by . We recommend to download the “Around Me” App or “YELP” which are very helpful too

A: HomeForDancers provides secured lockers to store any personal belongings.

Q: Do I have to do the cleaning?
A: To maintain the most enjoyable and cleanest environment for your stay, it is requested that you clean up after yourself, and Home for Dancers also provides weekly professional cleaning services at no charge.

Hey Maryss! I want to tell you in the name of Funkdation Crew that you really saved our lives not once, or twice, but three times! lol Home for Dancers was really our home for the time we lived there. Even if you weren’t around we felt that there was your essence all over the place! It is the cleanest, safest, most comfortable place we’ve ever been for a long time! Everything is where you would like it to be and everyone that stays there is so nice and amazing! We hope that more people could see how good Home for Dancers is because it really helped us in many ways!1
Thank you again Maryss for letting us stay at Home for Dancers!

Erin:) Sydney/Singapore
I had always wanted to move to LA. Like alot of people especially dancers, it is my Dream!
I was very fortunate and blessed to come across ‘Maryss from Paris’. The girl who’s workshops I took in both Sydney and Singapore and used to watch on youtube endlessly for inspiration along with her crew ‘Beat freaks’ When I was planning to move to LA, January 2011 after finishing my contract in Singapore, I came across a notice on twitter for ‘Home for Dancers’. I saw a contact email and thought ‘why not’.. with no idea who owned it. I had an immediate response from what I saw was ‘Maryss’ and realised it was her who was running this business. ‘Home for Dancers’ sounded Amazing and I was super excited to go there. The place is in a great location and the house itself is cosy and comforting . If any Dancer is planning to come to LA on short term, i highly reccomend you stay there. It’s not expensive, it’s spacious and it’s right near Debbie Reynolds Studios. Maryss also helped me set up an interview with Lisa from G2talentagency who agreed to representing me!! Maryss also wrote me a letter  to help my work visa application. I am now proud and happy to say that I will coming back to LA to live with my 0-1 Visa approved and am looking forward to all my new adventures. Thank you Maryss for opening up your home to me and for making my LA experience memorable.

SYAM (Singapore)
Hi Maryss, I would really like to thank you for putting us up this entire month, I have nothing but good, no, great memories of this place. I really hope « Home For Dancers » is going to stay around for a long time because I’ll definitely be back here and will make sure word gets out to dancers in Singapore that is coming to LA. I really can’t think of any suggestions to improve this place. I really believe that « a house is not a Home » and this is definitely a Home. I’m so comfortable here that I really don’t want to leave. Form the Bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!! WE <3 HOM FOR DANCERS!! & WE <3 YOU!! xoxo

From your Norwegian friends, Jonathan Alolod, Harold Lagunilla and Andre Cruz
Hi Maryss, we don’t know when you’re coming back, so we’re writing this in case we’re not gonna see each other again. We really want to thank you for everything! You’re such a nice person, and we’re so grateful for everything you’ve done for us. Thank you for making our LA trip a success, it couldn’t have been this amazing without your help, and our wonderful roommates! Home For Dancers was a really nice place to stay, so near to Debbie Reynold’s dance studio, and the bus stop was so close, it saved us a lot of money! This place is not just a place we can live in, but a home! Thank you again for everything, I hope we can keep in touch! If you ever come to Norway, you have to contact us also! 😀 Thank you Maryss From Paris, and Home for Dancers!

Hola!!! I didn’t get to really tell you…. thank you sooooo much for everything !!! Home For Dancers is forever my number one place in LA! not just because I realized you were the one taking care of Home for Dancers and….  I’m a fan!!!!!! :p but also because the place was beyond what I was hoping for!!! I’ve had bad experience with hostels and other type of housing for dancers as the shared places were dirty and messy and you don’t always feel safe with people you don’t know, especially away from home… well… this is definitely my HOME away from home! it was so much fun, SO clean , so close to the dance studios (saved me a lot of dinero!) and most of all I love each and every dancers who stayed there at the same time as me <3 <3 <3 Thank you also soooo much for introducing me to  the dance agency and for the immigration lawyer referral, I will let you know as soon as I start my work visa process!!! Count on me to spread the words about Home for Dancers and let me know if there is anywhere I can write something about it on your website or something? I love HOME FOR DANCERS!!!!!!!!!!! thank you! thank you! thank you!  (see!!! it rhymes too!!!)
